For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.

A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
The most common categories of technological additives include preservatives and antioxidants, gelling agents and thickeners and probiotics.
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.

LIFE SAVER STUFF!
We have 2 dogs, a young male with a chicken allergy and an older girl with IBD. We looked for a fish kibble and were finding it very frustrating!My girl was on wainwrights, so we put her and the male pup on the fish wainwrights after many visits to the vets with him, trying to figure out why he had these bumps, why his poop was runny, and money money money, it was a bad time!Changing to this set her IBD off something horrific. Like a horror movie. So we tried searching again. And after a few weeks of clinging on to hope, we found seven. They both took to it straight away and within 2 weeks, both dogs were bright eyed with good guts. I am over the moon! We are now 6 months in on seven.My older girl is settled, her coat looks fabulous, she's also more playful that she was previously, but calmer aswel, strange to put them 2 bits on one sentence.My male pup, a short but stocky bull breed, has grown beautifully. I was worried about will he grow right, will he have enough nutrients etc, honestly, I don't believe I could have gotten him better. He is smart, lean, healthy, has his play time and chills at the right time, hes doing fab on this food.They both have some raw tripe alongside SEVEN, with some Yu-move joint supplements too, however this is only over the past week, and I still fully stand by my statement for SEVEN. I recommend seven to everybody I can, any of my friends with dogs asking about tummy troubles, I point them this way.For reference - my male is on the large breed puppy salmon and sweet potato, he's 13 months old now and at 27kg. My older girl has the same flavour I believe it is, but for older dogs. The different sized kibble helps make sure I don't put the wrong kibble I'm the wrong bowl lol
